| | In response to the increasing interest in cross-cultural issues in relation to international PRO research, ISOQoL set up a special interest group in the field of translation and cultural adaptation in 2004. The group is chaired by Katrin Conway and Donald Patrick and has three major objectives: (1) to identify and advance research into practices and outcomes of translation and cultural adaptation of patient reported outcome instruments, (2) to provide an evidence database on translation and cultural adaptation of PROs and (3) to promote the visibility of cross-cultural issues in development and use of PROs in the International Society for Quality of Life (ISOQoL). |
To achieve its overall goals the group is divided into the following 4 subgroups: - Translation difficulty subgroup led by Barbara Wolf (

) with the overall objective of creating a list of “good practices” for instrument developers based on the review of common translation difficulties and proposing solutions of how to avoid them.
- Equivalences subgroup led by Sonya Eremenco (

) with the overall objective of collecting and reviewing existing classifications of equivalences and applying them to concrete examples.
- Methodologies subgroup led by Mona Martin (

) with the overall objective of identifying and defining a research agenda for the development and the comparison of methodologies in the field of translation and cross-cultural research.
