| The winner of the Catherine Pouget Award in 2009 was Shyla Bauer. The following report is on the current status of the project : |
Objective The objective of this arts based public health palliative care project is to normalize dying to communities internationally through sharing images and short narratives of palliative patients, carers and health care professionals from a variety of countries. The method used is to travel to a variety of international counties (both developed and developing), visit local palliative care teams and talk with and photograph the patients, their carers and the staff about their experiences in life and living with or caring for someone with a palliative illness. The result is a photographic exhibition with images of international palliative patients, carers, nurses, doctors and allied health staff. The exhibition is aimed at the general public and health care professionals to promote conversations and the space to contemplate palliative care and dying.
From March 2010-March 2011, the CPO award has kindly funded me to tour the existing exhibition (which includes images from Australia, India, Thailand, UK and France) to several international palliative care conferences in both developed and developing countries and to expand the exhibition through collecting more images and narratives. The exhibition will also be multilingual and exhibited in French, English, Spanish and Hindi.
I will be evaluating the project at two key exhibitions events in Melbourne, using quantitative data collect techniques to evaluate the impact the exhibition has on palliative care consumers, health care professionals and the general community.
