Research Award 2007

Results of the Catherine Pouget Research Award 2007

The applications submitted for 2007 were evaluated by a review committee including members of Mapi Research Institute’s Scientific Advisory Committee. The projects were evaluated for their originality, significance (research & practice), methodological rigour, and likelihood of completion.

We are pleased to announce that the 2007 Catherine Pouget Research Prize has been awarded to Ardith Z. Doorenbos, from the University of Washington School of Nursing (USA), for the project entitled: “Testing Web-based Cultural Competence Training for Hospice Providers ”.

The main objective of the proposed study is to evaluate the effect of a web-based cultural competence communication intervention on the hospice provider’s cultural competence, and to establish acceptability and feasibility of a longitudinal web-based cultural-competence intervention for hospice providers.

This is a repeated-measures study in which Dr Doreenbos would like to sample 60 providers from hospice agencies. The settings will be two programs (Hospices of Henry Ford & Hospice of Michigan in Michigan, USA and the largest hospice serving the state of Washington, Hospice of Seattle) that have agreed to take part.

A progress report and the final results will be published in future issues of the PRO Newsletter.

We would also like to warmly thank the other candidates for submitting their research projects and for their will to contribute to the improvement of quality of life for the terminally ill.
